Discussion for Week 10
Why is Alabama number one?
Alabama is number one in week 10 because their T100 score is higher than those of the other 127 teams. Seven of their nine I-A wins have been against teams who have won at least half of their games.
The GCS does not take into account a team's conference, prior accomplishments, fan bias, or profit potential in the media.
The only human factor in the T100 formula comes from the players and coaches on the field.
Why is Tennessee ranked #10 in the GCS poll and unranked in the others?
Here is a side-by-side comparison of Tennessee and Washington who is ranked #4 in the human polls.
Tennessee's top-5 wins are against I-A teams who have won at least half of their I-A games. Washington's top-5 has only four teams with strong I-A records. Tennessee's bottom-3 games (Alabama 9-0, Texas A&M 6-2, and South Carolina 5-4) were losses against considerably stronger teams than Washington's bottom-3 wins against teams with only one I-A win (Rutgers 1-7, Arizona 1-7, and Oregon State 1-7). The human polls will tend to favor undefeated teams. The T100 formula factors in the strength of the I-A records of a team's I-A opponents.
